Africa regional training presentation: A bottom-up approach in Sierra Leone

In August 2021, UNECA, UNDP, UNDESA and UNITAR hosted an online knowledge exchange and learning workshop for African countries. Sharing a country perspective, Joseph Samah gave a presentation on Sierra Leone’s approach to establishing governance and coordination arrangements for the INFF.

UNDP Africa Finance Sector Hub collaborated with UNDESA, UNITAR, UNECA in organizing the INFF regional training event from August 24 to 26. The event attracted 685 participants from 62 countries across the globe. This included participants from governments, development cooperation agencies, private sector, universities/think tanks, CSO and UN entities.

High-level country representatives from Gabon, Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Malawi, Sierra Leone, and Cabo Verde shared their experience and good practices on the implementation of INFF in their own countries at both national and local levels.

To provide some real examples of how countries are establishing governance and coordination mechanisms to support the INFF process, Mr Joseph Samah, Assistant Director of Planning, Policy and Research within the Ministry of Planning and Economy Development, shared Sierra Leone’s experience in establishing and embedding an INFF Steering Committee within the country’s current development planning architecture.
