Background

This conference will provide a forum for over a hundred officials from Ministries of Finance, Parliaments, tax administrations, civil society and international partners (UNDP, UNICEF, IMF, and OECD) to come together and share experiences, identify good practices, and articulate pathways for strengthening budgeting and fiscal policy for the SDGs. The conference will consider priorities for capacity development for integrated approaches to public finance for the SDGs.

There are in total 9 sessions in the conference: 

28 November 

  • Integrated Approaches to Budgeting for the SDGs (09:45 - 10:45)
  • Integrated Approaches to Budgeting for the SDGs (continued) (11:15 - 12:15)
  • Domestic Revenue Mobilisation for the SDGs (13:15 – 15:00)
  • Budgeting for Social Sectors (15:30 – 16:45)

29 November

  • Climate Change and Green Dimensions of Budgeting for the SDGs (09:00 – 10:15)
  • Budgeting for Gender Equality and Inclusion (10:45 – 12:00)
  • Integrated National Financing Frameworks and Financing the SDGs (12:00 - 13:15)
  • Budget Transparency and Accountability for Sustainable Development (14:15 – 15:30)
  • Technical assistance and capacity building (15:30 – 17:00) 

 

Session 7: Integrated National Financing Frameworks and Financing the SDGs

Moderated By IMF, Fiscal Affairs Department

This session will discuss how governments are using SDG financing strategies to strengthen linkages between different approaches to SDG budgeting, medium-term revenue strategies and private investment for sustainable development. It aims to bring together insights and lessons from countries where the INFF approach has been adopted, and to shed light on innovations that governments are pursuing to strengthen their national financing architectures in service of inclusive and sustainable development. 

In the panel, government officials will share their experiences related to: 

  • The value added and practicalities of implementing integrated approaches for financing the SDGs
  • Key innovations and policy solutions being pursued in the context of integrated approaches to financing
