In the 2023 Asia-Pacific INFF Exchange, Setyo Budiantoro, the Manager of the Economic Development Pillar at the SDG Secretariat in Bappenas (Ministry of National Planning) Indonesia, discussed the challenges Indonesia is facing and the strategic development objectives the nation is pursuing. As Indonesia navigates these challenges, they are particularly mindful the progress on the SDGs.
He acknowledged the role of various stakeholders in understanding the financial landscape of the country, essential for addressing development challenges. A particular focus was given to blue finance, an initiative tied to sustainable use of ocean resources. He emphasized that Indonesia is paying close attention to its financial strategy in the medium and long-term context.
Mr Budiantoro highlighted the range of initiatives, both public and private, being advanced through the country’s INFF, to support investment in Indonesia's development goals. These include Islamic Finance, philanthropy, and the blending of different types of financing options. He emphasized the regulatory adjustments necessary to accommodate these various forms of financing, reflecting Indonesia's multi-faceted approach to its economic and developmental challenges.

The June 2023 Asia-Pacific INFF Exchange event served as a forum for dialogue between policymakers leading INFF processes across the region, engaging private sector actors, civil society and international partners on sustainable finance. Through this event, participants shared and learned from promising approaches and practices, compared their different initiatives and identified barriers and opportunities for financing sustainable development. The event was jointly hosted by the INFF Facility, UNDP, UNDESA, UNESCAP and EU.
About session 1: Integrated national financing frameworks: building a more sustainable national financing architecture
This session showcased experiences across the region with country-led INFFs. It highlighted how Ministries of Finance and Planning are using the INFF approach to mobilise and align financing for sustainable development and build a more sustainable financing architecture at the national level.
