Mr. Thibaut Tossou, Econometric Engineer and Statistician, Directorate General of Taxes,  Ministry of Economy and Finance shared the experience of Benin during the two-day regional workshop on ‘Public Finance for Sustainable Development in Africa’ held on 12-13 June 2024, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Mr. Tossou shared insights on Benin’s financial systems that have been integrated to develop a medium-term revenue mobilization strategy, incorporating reforms in taxation, customs, the Treasury, the Budget, and the National Development Agency. The Directorate General of Taxes has introduced several key reforms, including the digitization of assets and procedures, the online filing of financial statements, and the standardization of invoices to trace purchases and sales. Building on earlier reforms, these highlight Benin’s commitment to enhancing its tax system and financial transparency.
